Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Triponomy ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and
protects information when you use the Triponomy mobile application ("App").
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide:
- Account information — If you sign in with Google, Facebook, or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider's authentication service. Signing in is optional; the App's planning features work without an account.
- Public profile — If you choose to publish a route to the community, you first pick a username. Your username, optional bio, published routes, and follower counts are visible to anyone using the App.
- Trip plans — Places, routes, and preferences you create are saved locally on your device. When you choose to share a plan or publish it to the community, a copy is stored on our servers and linked to your account. We do not automatically upload your saved trips to our servers without your action.
- Reviews, ratings, and photos — When you mark a route complete you may rate each stop, write a review, and upload photos. If you are signed in, this content is stored on our servers. Photos are stored in Cloudflare R2 and served from
img.triponomy.app. See Section 5 for how this content is moderated and published.
Information collected automatically:
- Foreground location — With your permission, we use your device's location to show nearby places and to pre-fill your position as a route origin. Coordinates are transmitted to our servers to calculate routes, discover places of interest, and retrieve weather information. These coordinates are not persistently stored after the request is processed.
- Background location (PRO) — The Driving Assistant uses background location access to detect when you are approaching a stop on your route and to announce it out loud. Background location is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. This permission is requested only when you activate the Driving Assistant, and it can be revoked at any time in your device settings.
- Search queries — Place names and partial queries you type into location search fields are sent to our servers to return autocomplete results.
- Usage data — We collect anonymised data about which points of interest are selected (category and coordinates only) to improve place recommendations. No personally identifiable information is included in this data.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the App's core features (route planning, place discovery, weather information).
- To process location coordinates and search queries in order to return routes, nearby places, and autocomplete results.
- To authenticate you and manage your PRO subscription via RevenueCat.
- To generate and serve shared trip links when you choose to share a plan.
- To operate community features you opt into — publishing routes, showing ratings, reviews and photos, and letting travellers follow one another.
- To moderate community content, including automated screening of review text and manual review of uploaded photos before they are shown to other users.
- To announce upcoming stops out loud through your device's text-to-speech engine while the Driving Assistant is running.
- To display relevant advertisements via Google AdMob (free tier only).
- To understand which parts of the App are actually used — anonymous product analytics via PostHog. We record events such as “a plan was created” or “a map was shown” together with counts and category names. We do not send your identity, your email, place names, coordinates, or anything you write. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Anonymous usage data.
3. Third-Party Services
Triponomy uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
4. Cookies and Website Tracking
Advertising is the only thing on this website that uses cookies. We show ads
through Google AdSense, which may store and read cookies or similar identifiers
on your device to serve ads, measure them, and limit how often you see the same one. Nothing
else on triponomy.app stores anything on your device.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you are asked first. Before any
advertising cookie is set, a consent message appears and you choose what you allow. Decline, and
you still get the whole site — you simply see non-personalised ads instead. You can reopen that
choice at any time from the privacy link in the consent message, and your answer is stored so you
are not asked on every visit. The message is Google's own consent tool, certified under the IAB
Transparency & Consent Framework. How Google uses this data is described in
How Google uses information from sites that use our services
and in the Google Privacy Policy.
Outside those regions we do not show the message, so ads may be personalised unless you opt out
via Google My Ad Center.
We also measure page views, using Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookieless: it
stores nothing on your device, does not follow you across sites, and does not build a visitor
profile. It reports aggregate numbers — which pages were opened, from which country, how fast
they loaded — and nothing that identifies you. You can block it like any script; the site works
exactly the same. See the
Cloudflare Web Analytics
description and the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard request data — IP address, user agent,
requested URL, timestamp — to deliver pages and protect against abuse. This is ordinary server
logging, kept by Cloudflare under its own retention policy, and we do not combine it with any
account data. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
The mobile app is different: it uses the services listed in section 3, and app analytics can
be turned off in the app's settings.
5. Community Content and Moderation
Ratings, reviews, and photos you submit are yours. What happens to them depends on what
you submit:
- Numeric ratings are always public. They are aggregated into a score for each place. One rating per person per place is counted; changing your rating replaces the previous one.
- Written reviews pass through an automated profanity filter. Clean reviews are published immediately; anything flagged is held for manual review and is not shown to other users unless approved.
- Photos are held as pending and are shown to other users only after a moderator approves them individually.
- Unpublished content stays private. A completed trip that you never publish is visible only to you.
We may remove content that violates our Terms of Service. Removing a
review or photo does not remove the numeric rating that accompanied it.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Trip plans saved locally remain on your device until you delete them. Shared plans,
published routes, reviews, ratings, and photos stored on our servers are linked to your
account.
You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen inside the App. This
permanently deletes your account and the personal data linked to it on our servers — your
public profile and username, your reviews, ratings, photos, favourites, and the people you
follow — and they stop being shown anywhere in the App or on this website.
You can take a published route down at any time, without deleting your account.
Open the trip in the App, tap Shared to community, and choose Remove from
community. The route is deleted from our servers, along with the favourites and ratings
it received. Your own copy of the plan stays on your device.
Two things outlive the account, and we would rather say so plainly than surprise you:
-
Routes still published when you delete your account stay available, but
anonymously. Other travellers may have saved or copied them, so the route itself
is kept — with every link to you removed. It is shown without an author, and it can no
longer be traced back to your profile. If you want them gone entirely, remove them from
the community before deleting your account.
-
Photo files already written to our storage may remain on disk. They are
no longer referenced or displayed by the service.
If you want routes you already left behind, or your photo files, erased as well, email us at
info@triponomy.app and we will remove them.
7. Children's Privacy
Triponomy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal
information from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant
changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after
changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
