It is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) north-west of the market town of Pocklington and about 1 mile (1.6 km) south of the village of Stamford Bridge. In 1931 the parish had a population of 85. Low Catton became a civil parish in 1866, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with High Catton to form "Catton".
